Air-Spade Root System
If your tree is struggling the chances are high that the problem originates in the root system. Our air spade tool allows us to carefully expose root so that girdling roots can be pruned, compacted soil can be broken up, and loose soil mixed with soil can provide a better rooting environment. We can also expose roots that can be pruned to prepare for construction.
Urban trees are often planted in locations where soil conditions are less than ideal. Urban soils are often compacted or low in organic matter. These conditions make it difficult for oxygen to reach the root system and for the tree to absorb nutrients. Other complicating factors are trees with girdling roots- very common in lindens, maples, and pines but can be found on any tree species. Unfortunately trees are often planted too deeply which encourages girdling roots and limits oxygen levels in the root system.
Our air spade allows us to correct many below ground problems.
